WHERE BALD EAGLES DARE Those of us who believe that Bald is Beautiful have a special place in our hearts for the Bald Eagle. This weekend we trekked for hours to see these amazing birds!! For openers, the eagle needs to catch his breakfast. He sees a fish in the water, and lines up his 'approach.' As he closes in on his prey, he uses his wings to slow down- 'Full Flaps.'

He hits the water with a light splash, and grabs the fish in his talons. Now he pours on full power to fly up from the water. He flies off with his breakfast, good start to the day. It's important for this eagle to catch some fish because winter temperatures are hovering around 10 degrees. He needs to eat or he won't survive the winter. I like this picture a lot- the way the tips of his wing feathers look like fingers. The eagle can push a lot of air with his massive wings- this eagle's wingspan is about 6 feet!!

In this picture you can see the fish in the eagle's talons. Don't feel too sorry for the fish- he still hopes to avoid becoming the eagle's breakfast. Meanwhile, the eagle is flying along and feeling pretty proud of himself.! He flies for several seconds with the fish in his grasp. Then, sudden disaster!!

The fish escapes the eagle's grasp and falls back toward the water. The eagle watches in horror as his breakfast drops back into the water. When I was growing up, we didn't have any barbers like Lupe. Well sir, when I met Lupe, I said 'You can cut my hair anytime you want!'

Little did I realize that Lupe would show off her skills with a razor on both me and Sandra, complaining that we didn't have a straight razor, which is her weapon of choice!!
